Why Spay or Neuter your pet ?

By Spaying or Neutering your dog, you increase the life  span of your family pet.

Your pet will have fewer health issues in the future !

Reasons for spaying your female:

Overall , I think that it is best to spay the female dogs because it really seems to help them live longer. Non medical reasons include :  not having to isolate your female dog for 4 weeks every six months while she is in season. Also there is no bleeding occurring and not having to be concerned about stray male dogs hanging around. It is very common for a male dog to climb a fence to get to a female in heat .

When a female is spayed before her first heat, the risk of mammary cancer later in life is less than 1%. When it is performed between the first and second heat periods the risk is about 8% of mammary cancer later in life. Anytime after the second heat period the risk of mammary cancer in female dogs is about  25%, whether she is spay or not.

The other major medical risk to female dogs that can be avoided is an infection in the uterus. This occurs in over 10% of female dogs sometime during their lifespan. In dogs, uterine infections are at a greater risk than in other species, due to the unusual way in which dogs have estrus cycles. The long interval between cycles with a closed cervix, leads to severe infections developing with minimal clinical signs. The condition is often life threatening at the time it is discovered.

Reasons for neutering your male:

Overall, I feel neutering male dogs provides a better healthier life in many ways. Neutered dogs make wonderful more affectionate family pets.

For male dogs, the benefits of neutering include a significantly decreased risk of prostate hypertrophy and infections. It removes the threat of testicular cancer completely.

It helps to keep the dog from wandering associated with seeking out females in heat, such as being hit by cars and fighting with other suiters of the female in heat. Neutering makes urine marking much less of a problem which is a major benefit. Neutering the male often calms the dog makes the dog more affectionate and are not prone to fighting or a dominance aggression toward other male dogs.

 In God we trust !
